On Tuesday, the Indonesian Minister for Economic Affairs, Erlanga Hartartu, announced his country's intention to eliminate import duties on certain plastic products as well as liquefied petroleum gas used in the petrochemical industry, in order to help plastic producers cope with the shortage of "breath." Erlanga said - as Chanel News Asia was quoted in its English-speaking publication - that this decision would come into effect next May.
Coordinating Minister Airlangga explained that the exemption from import duties on LPG and plastic raw materials was taken as an emergency measure to replace naphtha, the main raw material for the petrochemical industry.
