Beake led Denver to 5 Super Bowl trips and 2 titles during a 22-year Broncos tenure, the team said.
Former Denver Broncos general manager John Beake died at 87, the team announced Saturday.
Beake launched his career with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1968 under Hall of Fame head coach Hank Stram, later coaching the New Orleans Saints before joining Denver in 1979.
During his tenure as general manager, Beake engineered the 1983 trade for quarterback John Elway, who spent 16 years with the team and led the franchise to a 152-86-1 record.
The Broncos released a statement Saturday expressing condolences to Beake's wife, Marcia, and his sons, Chip and Chris, describing his "enduring impact on our organization."
Following his Denver tenure, Beake served as managing director of NFL Europe's football operations and remained active as a member of the Broncos Ring of Fame Committee.
