Centre Transfers Higher Education Secy Vineet Joshi Amid NEET Row; Naresh Pal Gangwar Takes Over
The government moved Vineet Joshi to the Department of Panchayati Raj as protests over the alleged NEET UG paper leak continued nationwide.
On Thursday, the Centre appointed Naresh Pal Gangwar as Higher Education Secretary, replacing Vineet Joshi amid ongoing protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination.
The Ministry of Education faced intense controversy following widespread reports of question paper leaks in the NEET-UG exam and irregularities in CBSE board exam evaluations.
Protests intensified after the Cockroach Janta Party launched a massive demonstration at Jantar Mantar on June 20, later joined by activist Sonam Wangchuk, who initiated an indefinite hunger strike.
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey welcomed the appointment as a 'Modi guarantee,' stating, "Prime Minister Modi Ji has replaced the Education Secretary who showed negligence in the paper leak case."
Joshi, who previously served as acting chairperson of the University Grants Commission, has been transferred to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj; Gangwar transitions from his role as Animal Husbandry Secretary.
