Fertilizers: EU Proposes €107 Million to Support French Farmers

Since the beginning of the conflict in the Middle East, which immediately led to the blockade of the Strait of Ormuz, fertilizer prices have grown by an average of 25 per cent, and more for nitrogen fertilizers, according to the FAO monitoring index.
"I am fully aware of the difficulties faced by French grain farmers in the face of the surge in fertilizer prices. My priority is to support them in order to ensure production," says Christophe Hansen, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, in "Ouest-France".
The European Commission plans to allocate financial aid to French farmers to cope with the rising costs of fertilizers associated with the crisis in the Middle East.
The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food announced on Tuesday 30 June 2026 that of the EUR 540 million promised by the Commission in support of agriculture in the face of the surge in fertilizer prices, EUR 107 million would come back to French farmers.
