Slovakia today unveiled a statue of Soviet Marshal Ivan Stepanovich Konev in the so-called Death Valley in the northeast of the country near the Dukel Pass. The Korzár newspaper portal reported this, recalling that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico discussed the possibility of placing a statue of the controversial military leader with Russian President Vladimir Putin last May.

The memorial of the Marchal of the Soviet Union, Ivan Konev, was opened in the village of Kruzlova in north-east Slovakia, as reported by the Slovak Agency TASR.
