Hindu priest among 33 Britons missing in Nepal
Nepal Tourism Board said 33 British nationals are missing, including 16 members of a south London Hindu temple group.
- On Wednesday, floods struck the Nepal-Tibet border, leaving 33 British nationals missing among hundreds of foreigners. According to the Nepal Tourism Board, the Britons are unaccounted for after the tsunami-like disaster.
- The missing individuals were part of a 16-member group from the Sanatan Mandir and Community Centre in Coulsdon, London, who were traveling to visit the sacred Hindu site of Mount Kailash, including priest Nabhi Nandan Das.
- Haldia, whose parents Kavitha and Pavan Haldia are among the missing, explained they left for the Gyirong border crossing in the morning and lost contact as they traveled toward China or Tibet.
- "I'm the only child, the only next of kin really in the family," Haldia told AFP. Prajval prefers to "stay contactable" rather than travel, worrying his presence might hinder rescue efforts.
- Four days after the disaster, Haldia has "no news at all" from his parents. He emphasized, "I think the focus should obviously be on rescuing as many people as possible from this disaster.
