Kingswinford Man Who Stole Identity to Pose as Nurse Jailed
Guramatunhu earned an estimated £172,920 by working at six nursing homes under a stolen identity between 2015 and 2019, police said.
- On Tuesday 2 December, Ashton Guramatunhu was sentenced to 40 months in prison at Liverpool Crown Court after pleading guilty to one count of fraud by false representation.
- In late 2014 Ashton Guramatunhu registered with a Warrington nursing agency using Christmas Musaruwa's identity, then worked at six nursing homes between Friday 1 January 2015 and Friday 5 April 2019.
- Guramatunhu completed around 80 shifts at Chesterholme in Hexham and earned £172,920.94 t, receiving wages of £145,052 during this period.
- Guramatunhu, of Middlepark Road in Dudley, was stopped after returning via Heathrow Airport in February 2020 and was sentenced to 40 months by Liverpool Crown Court, Det Con Naomi Sargent said.
- Regulatory referrals from the Nursing and Midwifery Council and Disclosure and Barring Service alerted Christmas Musaruwa, the genuine registered nurse, to the fraud scheme.
