The district councils as we know them today will no longer exist, after the local elections in 2027. The announcement was made by Alexei Buzu, who presented today, together with Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, the concept of reorganizing the level II local public administration. "The citizens will choose the regional councillors, who will vote for the president of the region," said the Secretary General of the Government.
In the general local elections of 2027, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova will vote for the local council, the mayor of the town and the regional council. The district councils, as they currently exist, are to be replaced by regional structures, as part of the administrative-territorial reform proposed by the Government.
The citizens of the Republic of Moldova would receive three ballots in the general local elections of 2027: for the local council, for the function of mayor and for the future regional council. The precision was made on 1 October by the Secretary General of the Government, Alexei Buzu, at a press conference held with Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.
