Reba McEntire Missed a Call From Dolly Parton Before Her Death
Reba McEntire said Dolly Parton called the last week of July, and she could not reconnect before learning of Parton’s death at 80.
Country star Reba McEntire, 71, revealed she missed a final phone call from Dolly Parton in late July, weeks before the iconic singer died in August at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer.
McEntire, 71, and Parton formed a decades-long friendship after meeting in 1977 at the Grand Ole Opry, bonding over their shared country music careers and personal connection.
Parton provided critical support to McEntire after a 1991 plane crash killed eight of her bandmates, telling her, "Here, take my band," to help through the tragedy.
At the September Emmy Awards, McEntire honored her longtime friend with a moving performance of Parton's 1983 song "Appalachian Memories," paying public tribute after her death.
McEntire told Entertainment Tonight she was unable to reconnect with Parton after the missed call, expressing lingering uncertainty: "I'll never know why she called me.
