Retirees affiliated with the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) are asking the government for an urgent increase in the country's lowest pensions, which currently range from $225 to $450, claiming that these amounts are insufficient to cover basic living costs in the midst of rising inflation and shortages of medical personnel.
