A projectionist’s preserved collection includes British Quad sheets for Dr. No, Help! and other classics, with top lots estimated at up to $10,650.
- On Oct. 8, Ewbanks in Guildford, Surrey, will auction nearly 100 iconic movie posters collected by a former cinema projectionist over 40 years, with a combined estimate of $46,620.
- All the top lots consist of British Quad posters—the 30 x 40 inch display sheets placed outside cinemas to attract audiences—representing major film releases from the 1960s and 1970s.
- The Beatles' Help! carries hopes of $930-$1,330, while the Oscar-winning Lawrence of Arabia is estimated at $665-$1,065, and the first James Bond film commands particular attention.
- Stars including Clint Eastwood, Audrey Hepburn, and Raquel Welch feature prominently, with titles such as Cool Hand Luke and Funeral in Berlin estimated to sell for $200-$400.
- Auctioneer Andrew Ewbank said the collection demonstrates "exceptional foresight, but a real love of the silver screen," and includes From Russia With Love and Thunderball among other notable lots.
