Iceye raises 1 billion euros to expand SAR satellite systems

  • Finnish satellite company Iceye secured more than €1 billion in new investment and share transactions, pushing its valuation to €10.5 billion and marking one of the largest growth financing rounds ever completed by a Finnish company.
  • Demand for Iceye's satellites has surged as European governments seek stronger sovereign intelligence capabilities, with the company increasing its focus on defence customers following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
  • The funding package combines €450 million in new growth capital with secondary share sales worth more than €550 million, while Iceye operates more than 70 satellites and plans to double annual output to 100 satellites by 2028.
  • Finnish institutional investors will hold approximately 17 per cent of Iceye shares, with the state maintaining control through Tesi and Solidium, while the round attracted international backers including Nokia and Qatar Investment Authority.
  • Chief Executive RafaB Modrzewski said Iceye intends to expand at a faster pace, using the new capital to support expansion of its satellite constellation and sovereign space-based intelligence services.
