Iceland launches AI Knittakers to give workers an hour back
The free service uses 4,000-worker research showing many meetings could have been emails and gives attendees a one-word wool summary.
Starting today, Visit Iceland launched Authentic Icelandic Knittakers, a service allowing people to book a real knitter to attend online meetings in their place through November 20, 2026.
Research commissioned by Visit Iceland among 4,000 office workers found they spend nearly 8 hours per month in avoidable meetings, while 63% agreed many meetings could have been an email.
Knittakers join live from farmhouse kitchens, waterfalls, and geothermal pools across Iceland to read the room and choose a one-word summary—PIVOT, ALIGN, RESET, or UNMUTE—which they knit in Icelandic wool.
"It's easy to assume that every modern problem needs a technological answer," Sigr, spokesperson for Visit Iceland, said, noting Iceland values simple solutions like time and nature.
Visitors can book an AIKnittaker for free at AIKnittaker.com until November 20, 2026, with organizers in Europe able to receive the hand-knitted summary by mail.
