ICE Agent Pleads Guilty to Battering a Protester at Illinois Gas Station
Adam Saracco received a year of court supervision after pleading guilty to misdemeanor battery in an off-duty gas station attack, prosecutors said.
- On Wednesday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Adam Saracco pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery. Cook County Circuit Judge Owens J. Shelby sentenced Saracco to one year of supervision and ordered him to have no contact with the victim.
- The December 27, 2025, confrontation occurred at a Brookfield gas station after Robert Held, a local attorney, followed the off-duty agent from an ICE processing facility in Broadview. Held reported Saracco threw him to the ground while filming.
- Held argued the attack warranted a felony charge because he is over 60, but prosecutors rejected the request. Cook County State's Attorney Eileen O'Neill Burke stated her office must "evaluate evidence in a consistent manner to ensure everyone is treated equally."
- Saracco is the first federal agent charged in Cook County regarding conduct during Operation Midway Blitz. Burke stated the resolution "represents an important step for accountability" and that "no one is above the law—and that includes ICE agents."
- Earlier this week, 10 people filed police reports seeking investigations into alleged crimes involving immigration agents. Residents also marched into Chicago Police Department headquarters in North Center to report incidents stemming from the deportation campaign.
