OAP, 79, Locked up for 15 Hours over 'Murder' that Never Happened
Police released Bobby Carmichael without charge after a post-mortem found the man in his 40s died from a suspected medical episode.
After spending 15 hours in custody, Leicester pensioner Bobby Carmichael, 79, was released Friday following Leicestershire Police's discontinuation of the murder investigation.
The ordeal began Thursday when Carmichael and a 46-year-old companion discovered a body in Castle Gardens while searching for a lost doll just before 8pm.
Detective Inspector Lorna Granville, the senior investigating officer, stated arrests were lawful under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, adding officers 'acknowledged the distress the situation may have caused them.'
Carmichael branded the police treatment a 'disgrace,' describing his detention as a 'nightmare' and expressing concern over the cordon at his home.
A post-mortem examination confirmed the man, in his 40s, died of a suspected medical episode, with an investigation now proceeding for HM Coroner.
