They studied prehistoric civilizations that survived in severe drought. “They had to adapt,” says Ladislav Varadzin from the Archaeological Institute in Prague. It was a small miracle. Despite the harsh dry climate, without writing or the wheel, a remarkable prehistoric society thrived in the Sudanese region of Shakadud.
