Czech archaeologists conducted unique research in Sudan. They studied prehistoric civilizations that survived in severe drought. “They had to adapt,” says Ladislav Varadzin from the Archaeological Institute in Prague. It was a small miracle. Despite the harsh dry climate, without writing or the wheel, a remarkable prehistoric society thrived in the Sudanese region of Shakadud.
