Early Voting in Iowa Starts Today. Here's What to Know.
Secretary of State Paul Pate said all registered voters can request mailed ballots, with applications due by 5 p.m. May 18.
Early in-person voting began Wednesday, May 13, for Iowa's June 2 primary elections, with ballots now available at county election offices and authorized satellite locations statewide.
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate encourages voters to plan early, as written absentee ballot requests must reach county auditors by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 18.
As early voting commences, Iowa has 1,791,361 active registered voters, though registrations dipped by roughly 45,000 compared to the 2022 midterm cycle.
Primary voters must register with a specific political party to participate, as Iowans cannot cast ballots in multiple party contests. "Now is the time to make your plan to vote," Pate said.
Completed absentee ballots must arrive at the county auditor's office by 8 p.m. on Election Day to be counted. The United States Postal Service recommends mailing ballots at least one week early.
