How to make Food Network Magazine’s brownie chunk cookies
The recipe makes about 16 cookies and uses brownie pieces instead of chocolate chips to help young bakers build kitchen confidence.
Food Network Magazine released The Big, Fun Kids Cookie Book featuring more than 100 recipes, with editorial director Maile Carpenter demonstrating the brownie chunk cookies recipe.
Carpenter noted these recipes help children build confidence in the kitchen because the ingredients and steps are simple. Parents can involve kids in measuring, stirring, and adding brownie chunks.
The recipe requires about 30 minutes of active preparation and yields approximately 16 cookies. Bakers should position racks at 400 degrees, refrigerate dough about 20 minutes, and bake 12 to 16 minutes.
Scoop dough onto baking sheets, then stir in 1 cup of brownie cubes with a wooden spoon. Press the remaining 1½ cups of brownie cubes into the tops of the cookies, flattening them slightly.
Let the cookies cool on baking sheets for 10 minutes, then transfer to racks to cool completely. Families can use store-bought brownies or leftover homemade brownies to complete the recipe.
