Logan Launches 1st Remote TSA Screening in MetroWest City
Eligible JetBlue and Delta passengers can clear security off-site and board a secure bus to Logan for $9, officials said.
On June 1, the Transportation Security Administration and Massachusetts Port Authority launched a remote screening pilot in Framingham, allowing eligible JetBlue and Delta travelers to clear security before boarding a secure bus to Boston Logan International Airport.
This 'first-in-the nation remote screening option' aims to 'enhance the traveler experience' by reducing airport traffic and checkpoint congestion, said TSA Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Acting Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill.
Passengers pay $9 per adult for the bus service, with children under 18 riding free when traveling with a ticketed adult; daily parking at Framingham costs $7 during 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. operations.
Demand has been high, with over 2200 tickets sold to date for the three-month pilot period, according to Massport. Each bus holds around 50 passengers, transporting around 400 travelers daily.
Massport is already considering other locations, including Braintree, to expand the program. The TSA noted similar remote screening pilots are currently operational in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York City.
Remote work is likely to be a term for most people. But a remote terminal? This is now available at Boston - with a record-breaking route after security control.
