Signs of type 2 diabetes can be detected in just a few seconds from the way someone talks, according to research being presented at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Milan, Italy, Sept. 28–Oct. 2.
The way a person speaks reveals much more than a state of mind or the fatigue accumulated after a long journey. Small nuances imperceptible to the human ear, such as an increase in the carraspera, a slight increase in the roughness of the vocal cords or the loss of control over breathing during speech, have long acted as subtle traces of certain pathologies.
