Food, Housing Consume 63% of Household Spending in Pakistan
Survey shows internet access in households rose from 34% to 70% and individual internet use from 17% to 57%, marking major socio-economic progress.

- The Household Integrated Economic Survey has tracked socio-economic indicators since 1963 and completed field operations in June 2025 after quarterly work covering 32,000 households using an Enterprise Resource Planning system.
- Household internet access rose to 70%, with 57% of individuals using the internet, household mobile or smartphone facility reached 96%, and household incomes and consumption increased, PBS said.
- Providing a data foundation, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics said HIES 2024-25 supports tracking 31 out of 62 SDG indicators, while Ahsan Iqbal urged media to focus on tangible outcomes.
- Improvements included falling infant and neo-natal mortality rates, with Infant Mortality Rate down from 60 to 47 and Neo-Natal Mortality Rate from 41 to 35, while use of clean fuels rose to 38% and food and housing & fuel remain key consumption areas.
