Growing financial problems in Polish hospitals, stemming from arrears in payments to the National Health Fund, are forcing a growing number of facilities to limit elective surgeries and suspend new patient admissions to drug programs. Although urgent, life-saving procedures continue to be performed, the situation in many hospitals is becoming increasingly tense.
Medical facilities have stopped accepting new patients, even those undergoing oncological treatment.
The Supreme Medical Council (SNM) is receiving reports from across Poland that hospitals are stopping accepting new patients and procedures are being postponed until next year. "The National Health Fund (NFZ) went bankrupt this year," said Dr. Łukasz Jankowski, president of the SMC, in an interview with Gość Wydarzeń. "The healthcare system has simply collapsed."
