Man Charged in Darien Home Invasion, High-Speed Chase, and Police Standoff in Homer Glen
Prosecutors say Michael Lahey stole a cellphone and led police on an 11-mile chase before a judge ordered him held without pretrial release.
- On Thursday, DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden denied pre-trial release for Michael Lahey, 32, who faces two counts of home invasion, aggravated fleeing, and misdemeanor theft.
- Lahey allegedly broke into a Darien home on Tuesday, August 4, throwing broken glass and a stool at the homeowner, causing injuries to his arm and torso before fleeing.
- Responding officers pursued Lahey's Ford Bronco for 11 miles into Will County, during which he reached speeds exceeding 75 mph in 35 mph zones while repeatedly driving into oncoming traffic.
- Following the chase, DuPage County MERIT SWAT Team and Will County Sheriff SWAT Team surrounded Lahey's Homer Glen home, taking him into custody after an hours-long standoff Tuesday evening.
- DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin condemned the "aggressive, unpredictable and violent behavior," while court records show Lahey is scheduled to appear before Judge Mia McPherson on Monday, August 31.
