The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality laid red carnations in the Izmir Bay in memory of the Roma people who were massacred by the Nazi regime 81 years ago.
On 2 August, the date of the "Night of Gypsies" in 1944, when more than 3,000 Roma were exterminated in Auschwitz-Birkenau, a platform worn by descendants of victims appeared in Le Monde and called on France to set up a national day to commemorate the genocide of Roma and Travellers.
