Hit TV series to return to BBC this summer after 35 years and viewers 'can't wait'
BBC Drama says the first series will stream on BBC iPlayer and air on BBC Two after the reboot returned in 2025.
After 35 years off air, Bergerac is set to return to the BBC this summer on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two, BBC Drama confirmed following an announcement by Alex Jones on The One Show last week.
The original police drama starring John Nettles ran for nine series on the BBC from 1981 to 1991 before a reboot launched in 2025 on UKTV with actor Damien Molony in the lead role.
Alongside Molony, the reboot features Zoë Wanamaker as Charlie Hungerford, Robert Gilbert as Barney Crozier, and Pippa Haywood as Margaret Heaton, with both series currently streaming on U&Drama.
Viewers have embraced the darker reimagining with a 6.6-star rating on IMDb, with one fan stating 'Have just binged this and can't wait for the next season' despite some noting tonal differences.
The BBC release expands accessibility beyond UKTV while original classic episodes remain available on U&Drama and the U streaming service, positioning the reboot for broader reach following its April second series premiere.
