Higher minimum salaries, expanded rosters among changes coming to PWHL
The deal raises minimum salaries to US$52,500 by 2030-31 and gives each team 24 active roster spots starting next season.
On Thursday, the Professional Women's Hockey League and its players association announced an agreement to increase minimum salaries and expand active rosters by one player per team.
Minimum annual base salaries will rise from $42,000 in the 2026-27 campaign to $52,500 by the 2030-31 season, outpacing the 3% annual increases negotiated when the league launched in 2023.
Each team will carry 24 full active roster spots this season, up from 23, while teams abandon reserve players in favor of one-game standard player agreements for unexpected roster situations.
Training camps open November 18, with the regular season beginning December 5, positioning the PWHL for its fourth season featuring 12 teams after expansion.
These changes build on the league's inaugural championship season, where the Montreal Victoire captured the Walter Cup in May 2026, establishing momentum for continued growth.
