Gretzky backs Carney's call to bar Russia from world juniors
Wayne Gretzky supported Canada’s decision to bar Russia from the upcoming world junior hockey championship in Alberta.
Prime Minister Mark Carney said Russian and Belarusian athletes will not represent their countries in Canada while the war in Ukraine continues.
Russia has been banned from international hockey since Moscow’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, although a sports court ruled that Russia must be reinstated.
The tournament is scheduled for Dec. 26 through Jan. 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer.
