Meta has agreed to pay up to $18 billion over ten years to settle claims from 52 state attorneys general that it designed Instagram and Facebook to be addictive to minors and illegally collected data from children under 13. Of that total, $12.7 billion is guaranteed while $5.3 billion is contingent on YouTube and TikTok adopting matching teen-safety restrictions.
