Herd of Cows Blocks West Coast Main Line, Disrupting Scotland-London Trains
Thousands of passengers faced delays and cancellations after the herd blocked services between London Euston and Scotland for more than four hours, Network Rail said.
On Tuesday, a herd of cows wandered onto the West Coast Main Line in Staffordshire, disrupting one of the United Kingdom's busiest rail routes for several hours.
Following difficulties reaching the farmer, Network Rail teams resolved the situation around 1pm, ending the obstruction that began shortly before 9am.
Avanti West Coast and Lumo services experienced delays of up to 45 minutes, with significant cancellations impacting travel between London Euston and Glasgow Central.
Stuck passengers complained they were offered only one 330ml bottle of water while waiting on trains that had "not moved for three hours."
The disruption comes after an A811 collision involving cows on Sunday near Gartocharn in West Dunbartonshire, where an 18-year-old male passenger suffered life-threatening injuries.
