'There Can Be Only One' — Henry Cavill Faces Off Against Dave Bautista's Kurgan in First Highlander Footage
Henry Cavill leads the reboot as Connor MacLeod, and Amazon MGM says the film will return the cult fantasy franchise to theaters.
On Wednesday at CinemaCon, Amazon MGM Studios debuted footage for the Highlander reboot, starring Henry Cavill as Connor MacLeod and directed by Chad Stahelski.
The project reboots the 1986 original starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, with Cavill taking the mantle of the 16th-century Scottish swordsman who learns he is immortal.
Attendees saw brutal action sequences, including a neon-drenched rave fight; Russell Crowe plays Ramirez and Dave Bautista plays The Kurgan, the barbarian from the original film.
Cavill declared in footage, "I am Connor MacLeod, who was born in 1518, and I am immortal," while production is halfway through under Stahelski from a script by Michael Finch.
Production continues in Poland, the Scottish highlands, and Hong Kong, as Stahelski aims to revitalize the franchise, which has lacked a theatrical release since 2000's Endgame.
