It's GCSE results day - and some students can get theirs via an app this year
More than 95,000 pupils in Greater Manchester and the West Midlands can access GCSE results via a new app as part of a government pilot to improve result delivery and support.
- On Thursday, pupils in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are receiving GCSE and Level 2 results, with tens of thousands in Greater Manchester and the West Midlands getting grades via the Education Record app from 11am, while schools issue results from 8am.
- Most pupils this summer had been in Year 6 when schools closed, so Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson asked Ofqual to continue providing formulae and equation sheets in mathematics, physics and combined science for future GCSE sittings.
- If pupils are unhappy with marks, they can ask schools and colleges to request review or appeal, resit in the summer of the following academic year, or retake English and maths from this autumn with funding until grade 9 to 4.
- Digital records are intended to help pupils when applying to further education, apprenticeships or employment, and Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson praised this year's cohort for `remarkable resilience` and vowed to `break the link between background and success once and for all`.
- Contextually, England's grading system from 9 to 1 awarded more than a fifth of GCSE entries top grades last year, slightly down from 22% in 2023.
