Helicopter Crashes on Pilgrimage Flight in India's Uttarakhand State, Killing 6
Police and rescue teams rushed to the site after the helicopter went down amid adverse weather, with officials saying all six people on board were killed.
On Friday, a helicopter carrying six people—five passengers and one pilot—crashed while returning from Badrinath Dham to Joshimath in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district amid adverse weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for Chamoli on October 30, warning of thunderstorms, hail, and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph in isolated areas.
Operated by Trans Bharat Aviation, the aircraft was flying from Badrinath to Sahastradhara, with UCADA personnel reporting its location signals near the Army camp above Chai village.
Teams of the State Disaster Response Force from Joshimath and Pandukeshwar deployed at 2:24 pm to the reported crash site to initiate search and rescue operations.
Local administration officials launched an aerial search after losing contact, though heavy rain and low visibility are currently complicating efforts to locate the missing aircraft wreckage.
