Health alert still in force as cold weather set to continue
Two men remain missing after entering dangerous seas off Devon coast despite warnings amid ongoing yellow cold health alert in southwest England, UKHSA said.
- A yellow cold-health alert remains active until midday on December 27 for south-west England as cold conditions are set to continue beyond Boxing Day.
- UKHSA warned that low temperatures and overnight frost would increase healthcare use and risk to life for vulnerable people.
- Emergency services were called to Budleigh Salterton around 10.25am after reports of people struggling in the water, and a search was later called off with two men still missing at sea.
- Zoe Hutin, Met Office meteorologist, said `Boxing Day we're going to see some good spells of sunshine, we will see a little in the way of cloud for the South and North West, some light rain, but for the vast majority it's going to be dry` with top temperatures between 6-7C and a low chance of snow.
- Similar conditions are forecast for Saturday and Sunday with possible drizzle where cloud is thicker, and temperatures around 6-7C; Zoe Hutin said it's suitable for people with the week off to go on walks.
