In addition to the sterile fly-producing plant of the cattle sweeper worm in Chiapas that the U.S. government announced it will fund, Texas legislators and officials want an insect-producing plant in their state. Sid Miller, commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture, called on the U.S. Congress to pass the “STOP Screwworms” Act, which would order the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to build the local sterile fly plant.
