HD Hyundai and Persona AI Sign Agreement to Deploy Humanoid Welding Robots for Shipbuilding Automation
- On May 7, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Houston between HD KSOE, HD Hyundai Robotics, Persona AI, and Vazil to jointly develop humanoid robots designed for precision welding tasks in shipyards, with prototypes expected by the end of 2026 and commercialization planned for 2027.
- The agreement arose from growing labor constraints in heavy industry, especially in high-risk welding trades, creating urgent demand for autonomous humanoid robots.
- The joint program involves four parties collaborating to create advanced AI-powered humanoid robots capable of precise and complex shipyard welding tasks aimed at improving productivity and safety.
- Vice President Young-hoon Song said these robots will “observe, reason, and make decisions” beyond repetitive tasks, while CTO Sungwon Kim added they will “elevate shipyard automation to the next level.”
- The prototype is expected to be finalized by late 2026, followed by testing in real-world conditions and the start of commercial rollout in 2027, representing a key achievement in international efforts to advance industrial robotics.

Millions of humanoids will roam the Earth by 2050
Picture Optimus serving coffee, or staring you down with a rifle. Madrid’s flying taxis by 2040 sound cool too, but bots could outpace them, leaving Spanish workers in the dust. In fact, not long ago, Elon Musk said humanoids will outnumber humans by 2-1. He also said he will have 1,000 of them working in one of his factories next year. A new industrial dawn? Try a robotic reckoning. Source
