Police Dog Locates Missing 96-Year-Old Man in Florida Woods
The sheriff’s office said Boomer tracked Cornett in a wooded area and led deputies to him safe and uninjured.
K-9 Boomer located Ray Cornett, a 96-year-old man reported missing Saturday in Lutz, Florida, for the Hillsborough County Sheriff Office. The dog successfully found the endangered man in a wooded area near his home.
Cornett disappeared near his home on the 18000 block of 4th Street Southeast, located about 15 miles north of Tampa in a wooded, swampy area. Deputies responded after receiving missing-person reports.
Body-Camera video shows Boomer arriving at the home and being introduced to Cornett's belongings. After picking up the scent, the dog led officials into the woods.
Officials found Cornett stuck and immobile about 100 yards from his home. The missing and endangered person was found safe and uninjured before being returned to his residence.
While multiple specialty units were actively searching, it was ultimately Boomer who found Cornett. The Hillsborough County Sheriff Office confirmed the rescue was successful despite the challenging terrain.
