Scamurra Pays Visit to Hometown Bills with Gold Medal in Hand
The Buffalo native toured the team’s new stadium and met players after her Olympic gold and PWHL title drew an invitation.
On Tuesday, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen met Olympic gold medalist Hayley Scamurra at a practice in Orchard Park, where the 31-year hockey player exchanged jerseys and toured the new stadium.
The Bills invited the Getzville native after she recently joined hockey's Triple-Gold club, winning her third world championship and the PWHL Walter Cup with the Montreal Victoire.
Players including Damar Hamlin and Dawson Knox examined Scamurra's 5-pound gold medal from the Milan Cortina Games; "They're in shock and then they hold it and they're like, 'wow, that's heavy' every time," she said.
Coach Joe Brady praised the forward, who served as the team's 13th forward, noting her grit and mindset: "She clearly embodies Buffalo, right?" Brady said during their five-minute meeting.
Reflecting on the visit, Scamurra called the experience "surreal" given her childhood as a Bills fan; "No, I never could have envisioned this," she said, noting she feels welcome anytime.
