Hawks To Hold Off Extension Talks With Lu Dort
Lewis has signed a four-year extension as Hawthorn builds a tall-forward group around a likely Ben King move, with 30 goals this season.
- Hawthorn secured forward Mitch Lewis on a four-year deal and veteran Jack Gunston for 2027, shortly after Gold Coast spearhead Ben King agreed to accept the club's six-year restricted free agency offer.
- Aiming for a 14th VFL/AFL flag, the club is building a potent forward line, confident that Lewis and King—both near or taller than 200 centimetres—will complement one another.
- "There's no doubt Mitch is a key part of what we are trying to achieve as a club," Hawthorn recruiting boss Mark McKenzie said, noting the 27-year-old kicked 30 goals in 18 games this season.
- Gold Coast coach Damien Hardwick insisted King's departure "won't be the end of the world," as The Suns will seek band-one compensation or broker a trade for the star forward.
