Harvey Weinstein is sentenced to 15 years in prison for 2006 sex crime in New York
Prosecutors said the retrial conviction came after a jury again found him guilty of a 2006 criminal sex act involving Miriam Haley.
- On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, film producer Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the 2006 sexual assault of former production assistant Miriam Haley in Manhattan criminal court.
- Weinstein's original 2020 conviction was overturned in 2024 by New York's highest court, citing prejudicial testimony from other women whose allegations were not part of the case, prompting a retrial where a jury re-convicted him in 2025.
- In a victim impact statement, Haley told the court the assault had a "devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away," calling it "a life sentence" for her.
- Judge Curtis Farber rejected the defense's plea for a nine-year sentence, telling Weinstein, "You took what you wanted by force, and you have never accepted responsibility" before imposing the 15-year term with five years post-release supervision.
- Weinstein's legal team signaled plans to appeal the sentence while he awaits separate resentencing in California for a 2013 conviction, keeping the case central to the #MeToo movement's ongoing legal reckoning.
