Hardeep Singh Puri nominated for Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh, ending uncertainty over his seat
On Wednesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party announced Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election from Madhya Pradesh.
The by-election fills a vacancy created after L Murugan resigned from the Rajya Sabha and Union Council of Ministers on October 14 to focus on politics in Tamil Nadu.
Puri, whose current term representing Uttar Pradesh expires in November, was not renominated from that state, where the party recently elected eight members unopposed.
The Election Commission scheduled polling for November 12, with counting for the seat—which has a term running until 2030—to take place on the evening of the same day.
With the BJP holding power in Madhya Pradesh, the candidate is expected to secure the seat, while Murugan shifts focus toward organizational work ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
