Hamas Gave Netanyahu a "Tailwind" - and that Could Be Dangerous

Hamas's response last week to the mediators' proposal for a partial release of the hostages gave the prime minister the backing to insist on a comprehensive agreement only, which should prove to be a risky gamble. • Until the maneuver itself begins, let's hope that the military axis will remain a threat and the political axis will lead to an agreement to release the hostages and end the war.
As long as Netanyahu does not say whether he supports the deal outline that Hamas approved last week, whether he will agree to a deal even at the cost of ending the war, and whether there is a realistic outline that will bridge the gap between the current proposal and his demand for a comprehensive deal, it is difficult to assess whether it will be possible to advance a deal soon.
