Two Officers Assaulted After 400 People Gatecrash Byford Halloween Party
Police dispersed 400 mostly intoxicated attendees at a Byford Halloween party where two officers were assaulted and multiple arrests were made.
Police in Byford shut down an out-of-control Halloween party after being called just after 9:30pm to disperse a largely intoxicated crowd of 400 people, with two officers allegedly assaulted.
Neighbours reported a stream of about 200 teenagers walking to the house on Linton Street North, many gatecrashing, with some screaming, smashing bottles, jumping fences and lunging at police.
Authorities arrested and charged several attendees, including a 16-year-old girl from Glen Iris accused of punching and kicking officers, while Randy Hill, 21, from Thornlie fronted court on disorderly and drug charges, and a 17-year-old boy was issued a move-on order.
On Saturday, neighbours were seen clearing rubbish from the street, picking up bottles, shoes and other debris left by residents and partiers.
The long-awaited Byford rail extension opened last month, with residents saying some partygoers used the newly opened Byford train station, while neighbour Jean told reporters, "Oh, we knew as soon as that train came in that it would bring trouble.
