A Scandinavian Showdown with History at Stake: Haaland Targets Rare Norway Achievement Against Denmark
- On Thursday in Oslo, Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway defeated Denmark 3-2 in the Nations League, becoming the highest-scoring Nordic men's player in international football history with 64 goals in 56 appearances.
- The 26-year-old forward moved past both Ibrahimovic's 62 goals and Brazilian legend Ronaldo, who scored 62 international goals before retiring in 2011. Since debuting in 2019, Haaland maintains a scoring rate exceeding 1.1 goals per game.
- Fulham forward Oscar Bobb broke the deadlock before Brentford midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard added a stunning 25-yard free-kick within 11 minutes. Norway manager Stale Solbakken praised the striker's instinct: "It is not possible to explain, nor is it possible to learn. It is instinct."
- Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund acknowledged the unique threat, saying Haaland "has a way of finding the path to the goal," though the performance frustrated him. Despite a late red card for substitute David Moller Wolfe, Norway claimed the win to top League A Group 4.
- Former Sweden forward Lotta Schelin holds the overall Nordic international record with 88 goals, though that comes from the women's game. Denmark will host Norway on November 17 for the final group-stage matchday, offering a chance for revenge.
