The president of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo, announced this Friday that the country will have its own megacarcel, following the trend of the governments of Honduras, Costa Rica and El Salvador. The penitentiary center, called “El Triunfo”, will have capacity for 2,000 prisoners of maximum danger and will be located on a farm expropriated by drug traffickers Mario Ponce in the department of Izabal, the northeastern of the country.
