Greece says new biometric checks are active for non-EU travelers, but some could pass without scans
Greek officials say the Entry-Exit System is fully operational, while temporary scanner shutdowns at crowded airports could let many travelers through without biometric checks.

The European Union's EES replaces traditional passport stamps with digital fingerprints and photographs, part of a Europe-wide rollout that began at Greek entry points on April 10.
Nearly 38 million people visited Greece last year, with nearly 6 million from Germany and 4.9 million from Britain, boosting the country's 204 billion-euro economy.

The Foreign Ministry said Thursday it has received no further updates on exemptions, while the Foreign Office guidance suggests travelers from Britain may not face data collection.
