Gray Celebrates Groundbreaking for Global Leader Isuzu in South Carolina

The new $280 million plant aims to produce 50,000 trucks annually by 2030, featuring flexible production for gas, diesel, and electric commercial vehicles.

  • On Oct. 2, 2025, Isuzu Motors held a groundbreaking ceremony in Piedmont, South Carolina, marking the start of construction on a new U.S. production facility.
  • Investing $280 million, Isuzu will build a facility producing battery and diesel N-series and F-series trucks, aiming for 50,000 units annually by 2030 with production starting in 2027.
  • The plant will feature a variable-model, variable-volume production system without conveyors or pits and expand an existing 1,000,000 s.f. facility designed and built by Gray, a fully integrated design-builder.
  • The project is expected to create some 700 jobs by 2028, and around 150 people attended, including Governor Henry McMaster, Shigeo Yamada, Japanese Ambassador to the US, and Masanori Katayama, Isuzu Motors CEO.
  • The state worked with Isuzu for more than a year, officials said, and company leaders said the plant advances U.S. strategy, noting North America is their second-largest truck market.
