'Very Happy': Victim's Joy over Pedophile's Appeal Fail
The court said the 27-year non-parole period properly reflected the scale of abuse and the lasting harm to children and families.
On Friday, the Queensland Court of Appeal dismissed Ashley Paul Griffith's challenge against his 27-year non-parole period, maintaining the sentence handed down for his crimes against children.
Griffith, a former childcare worker, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2024 after pleading guilty to 307 offenses against 65 young victims committed over two decades.
The court ruled the violent depravity of his actions necessitated a "very significant deterrent effect," rejecting arguments that the minimum term was "manifestly excessive."
Clearing the path for further proceedings, the appeal's conclusion allows Griffith to face court proceedings in NSW, where he is accused of committing 180 sex offenses against more than 20 children.
NSW Police confirmed Friday they are exploring options to bring Griffith to NSW while he serves his Queensland sentence, as victims' families hope he faces charges soon.
