Gracie the Giraffe Has Been Found After Days-Long Search Through Texas Hill Country
Officials said the young giraffe was found healthy on private ranch land and will be sedated before being moved back to Cedar Hollow Ranch.
The Real County Sheriff's Office confirmed Friday that Gracie, a reticulated giraffe missing from Cedar Hollow Ranch, was found near Regan Wells on a neighboring property.
Escaping about two weeks ago, Gracie wandered past an 8-foot-tall gate and disappeared into dense brush across the rugged Texas Hill Country terrain west of San Antonio.
Owner Vick Jones coordinated helicopter searches across 7,500 acres and offered a $5,000 reward before Gracie was spotted four miles from the ranch, appearing "fat and happy."
Real County Sheriff Nathan T. Johnson stated officials are waiting for a veterinarian, adding, "We're going to have to bring in a team and sedate her."
Once sedated, Gracie will be transported back to Cedar Hollow Ranch; Jones acknowledged finding the giraffe was easy but safely corralling her presents the real challenge ahead.
