Pak Government Holds Talks with Imran Khan's Party to Defuse Tensions Ahead of Long March to Islamabad
The sides discussed the political crisis and the planned October 4 long march as the government sought a negotiated way forward.
On Friday, the federal government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf committees met in Islamabad at National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq's office to defuse political tensions ahead of the opposition party's planned long march on October 4.
Tensions escalated after the Centre discussed constitutional options, including governor's rule, amid deteriorating security in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The PTI postponed the long march from September 27 to October 4.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan demanded an "immediate" meeting with Imran Khan and sought medical care for Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, plus release of arrested party members.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Rana Sanaullah led the government delegation, which emphasized that "the solution to all problems lies in negotiation" rather than street protests.
The All Parties Conference aims to build consensus on a national agenda, with Hafiz Naeem confirming support for addressing the country's crisis. The PTI's long march call remains intact pending the government's attitude.
