The Indian government plans to develop the Eastern Grid with more than 5,000 km of navigable waterways to deepen trade within BBIN countries- (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal) and amplify trade potential with countries like Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. According to the Sarbananda Sonowal, the development of waterways will accelerate regional integration, deepen trade ties, and enhance economic growth in the eastern part of India.
